I hope you can give me some advice and sorry for always asking you – but I know I will always get an honest opinion from you and if you know you will help. I am looking for a female. I know your waiting lists are long, and I have seen a few meester koevoet daughters and like them. Do you think they are good dogs? They are big strong dogs from what I see. The females here are getting smaller and “lighter” and are not the boerboels I know from years ago. It is impossible to say how long the wait will be, for it depends on the conception rate, size of the litters, the waiting list, etc. Another factor is the suitability of females that will be mated to Ramkat. We only have a few black females and only one black male in the person of Ramkat. Sometimes some months passes where we do not use Ramkat, for the females that come in heat are not allocated to him for mating, either because they are too closely related or they do not suit him.

This is an update letter.
My name is Robert Graham, and I acquired a pup from you in Feb. 2012 that my family and I named Shaka. While I had contemplated getting a boerboel pup for a number of years, I finally decided to make the purchase after our home was burglarized and we were advised by the police to get a dog. I’d already done my research and had already decided that when I was ready, Spitsvuur would be my kennel of choice. I reached out to you, and after showing me several photos and patiently answering my many questions, I selected and purchased a pup. Upon his arrival, I noticed that I did not receive the pup I’d selected, but his brother. After I contacted you, you graciously offered a replacement and explained that in the early morning darkness, the pup I’d received somehow managed to sneak into the crate destined for me. I accepted your apology, and declined your offer of replacement because I believe that everything happens for a reason, and we don’t always get the dog we want, but the dog we need.
Shaka exceeded all of our expectations, and has become a most beloved member of our family. His temperament is a perfect example of the best qualities of the breed, and I have never once been able to take him on our daily walks without numerous compliments. He grew up to be a 200 lb. ambassador of what a well bred dog should look and behave like. While on a walk one day when he was 8 months old and 125 lbs., he even stopped a robbery in progress, and the two muggers ran off after getting a good look at him.
Unfortunately, earlier this year, Shaka acquired a severe liver infection from eating food that had somehow become contaminated by the manufacturer. He lost over 60 lbs., and we have come very close to losing him on at least two occasions. Our hearts were absolutely shattered at the thought of losing him. We have gotten him all the necessary treatments and medications, and after drastically changing his diet, his condition seems to have stabilized. He’s even put back on a few pounds!
While I regret not contacting you sooner, I felt compelled to reach out to you to thank you for the wonderful work that you are doing with this breed in general, and for Shaka in particular. Being all the way in SA, I can understand that you don’t always get to keep up with all of the pups that you sell, however, I wanted you to know that in this instance a family didn’t just receive a dog, but a new family member, and I can’t thank you enough.
I hope this letter finds you and your family well and, should I ever need to acquire another dog, I will certainly be calling upon you.

It is always wonderful to read the letters of the people loving and enjoying their dogs. I apologize again for picking the wrong pup. It is always a very difficult situation when you have to wake up the puppies while it is still dark very early in the morning. They are hungry and eager for attention, and they are all over you. It is then easy to put the wrong one in the crate. In your case it was obviously a very lucky mistake.
Hopefully Chaka will recover totally from the liver problem, and you will enjoy each other for many years to come.

Yes, usually the shipping for the second puppy is about 50% of the shipping for the first puppy if they are shipped in the same crate. That could only happen if they are from the same litter or the same age.

Dear Betsie and Lukas,
Hope all is well with you and your family.
It is with great sadness that I am writing to inform you that my family and I lost our beloved Shaka on September 6, 2016, one month and 5 days shy of what would have been his fifth birthday.
In my previous letter to you, I conveyed that Shaka had contracted a a very serious food-related liver infection. He received extensive treatment, and his liver showed every sign that we would be able to achieve a complete recovery. At some point his recovery began to stagnate. During one of his follow-up exams an ultrasound was performed and he was found to be suffering from a severe intussusception in his intestines, and what appeared to be a large cancerous growth in the same region.
His decline was swift and in order to spare him any further distress or pain and, upon the advice of our veterinarian, we made the very difficult decision to euthanize him. I can say without reservation that it is one of the hardest things that I have ever had to do. Not one time throughout the entire ordeal of his illness did he ever whimper, whine or show any obvious signs of distress, and his good temperament did not waver. Not once.
There is not a day that goes by that his presence is not missed in our home. My family is devastated, and I feel as if I have lost one of my very best friends. In the brief time that he was with us, Shaka did not fail to leave a strong and positive impression on everyone he came into contact with. He was a wonderful dog, and an excellent companion and protector.
While we are not ready to acquire another dog at this time, we will without question contact you at Spitsvuur when we are ready to make another acquisition. I have become utterly dedicated to the magnificent boerboel breed, and for me there is no longer any other option.
