Thank you for visiting the Spitsvuur Boerboel site to share something of our vision and mission for breeding these remarkable Boerboels and especially for the Spitsvuur Boerboels to be bred in the future. We are farmers, living and working on our farm in the Heilbron district of South Africa, about 160km south of Johannesburg, in the area where the Boerboel originated.
My name is Lukas van Vuuren and my wife is Estna. Our son in law is Carel Terre’Blanche and his wife, our daughter, is Betsie. Both Carel and Betsie are currently appraisers and working towards becoming senior appraisers. Carel and Betsie just took over the running of the total Spitsvuur kennel, but Lukas will still be involved in the breeding. Feel free to contact us by phone or e-mail.
As South African farmers we were in the privileged position to grow up with the Boerboel. We know the dog and the dog’s capabilities. As a young boy I owned Boerboels and went on numerous hunts with Boerboels, and I experienced the harsh selection of this marvelous farm dog first hand. It is a tremendous privilege to be involved in the breeding and selection of the unique Boerboel dog. This privilege brings a certain responsibility with it: To preserve and enhance the qualities that made this Boerboel breed stand out as something special. I feel and acknowledge this responsibility, and will endeavor to breed my Boerboels in such a way that whilst improving all the necessary traits, the very important, non conformational, traits such as health and especially temperament is not neglected.
In the rural farm areas of our country where we live, a guard dog is a necessity. We also needed guard dogs and the natural choice was the Boerboel. With my background in genetics and breeding it was inevitable that I had to start breeding and improving the Boerboel. This breeding operation started small and slowly but grew into a passion to preserve and improve the wonderful Boerboel breed. On the pages to follow you will learn more of the passion for improving our dogs while marketing them with honesty and integrity.
Buying a dog unseen from a stranger on a different continent is a very uncertain and risky business. If I had to put myself in that position I would want to deal with somebody that is forthcoming with all the negative points of every dog as well. In the testimonials you will note that a few of the buyers mention the fact that I told them all about the negative points beforehand so that they do not get any bad surprise when the dog gets out of the crate. On the website I also mention negative characteristics because “there is a bit of bad in the best of them.” I do that so that every buyer can make a calculated decision on his future matings. This will result in better progress with breeding the Boerboels, so that breeders (including me) could buy better dogs in future to complement their own breeding program.
Boerboel breeding started as a hobby but developed into a business. I still get my satisfaction from the fact that the new owner of the dog enjoys his dog and the dog is as good as, or better, than he expected. I could only allocate the right dog to the right owner if I know his preferences. It therefore helps me a lot to know what you need.
Please enjoy our website and see it as an honest effort to convey the facts about every dog in such a way that you could pick the right dog. If you want more information you are welcome to ask. Please feel free to contact us by phone or email.
